CSM12 Candidate: Jin'taan

Image of CSM12 Candidate: Jin\'taan

1. Please start by giving us a short introduction to who you are and your history within EVE Online. Include how long you have been playing and the groups you have been involved with.

My name is Jin’taan, I’ve been playing since 2009, and in that time I’ve done pretty much everything. However, my primary role currently and for the past three years or so has been of that of an FC within Providence. I’m also an incumbent, having been elected into CSM 11, where I worked to produce our fortnightly updates, Quarterly reviews and a number of other things.

2. Who would you consider to be your key constituents? Who would you best represent within the playerbase?

That’s a very interesting question! I imagine a large number of my votes are going to be from the NRDS and NPSI communities, as I’ve advocated consistently for more support for non-NBSI engagement rules. However, I hope that my constituents also include people who are interested in the communication I’ve done with the public on a regular basis, and feel that it’s a valuable part of the CSM.

3. Please summarise your platform. (Preferably using key bullet points)

  • Promote iteration on stagnant features
  • Provide consistent, neutral communication & transparency from the CSM
  • Ensure that as many points of view as possible are brought to the table
  • Argue for an increase in balance velocity
  • Continue to drive the CSM-CCP relationship in a positive direction

4. Why have you decided to run for CSM this year?

I feel like I can do more to improve and build upon what I’ve done in CSM 11 in terms of providing good infrastructure for the CSM to communicate through. I’d also like to really work to build the expectation that someone will be a proactive communicator on the CSM going forwards.

5. Have you run for or been a member of CSM in the past? If so please list each year and if you were elected.

As I said, I’m an incumbent, having been elected for CSM 11

6. What makes you a unique representative when you compare yourself to other candidates?

I have a proven track record of communication on the CSM, and putting effort/time into it. I’ve been willing to listen to everyone, and more importantly discuss the problems people are having with the intent of getting the root cause to CCP’s ears.

7. Do you have any out of game experience and skills that make you a good candidate?

I’m an Aerospace Engineer in real life, which means that I handle NDA’s constantly, and take them very seriously. I’m also not too shabby a writer or audio/video editor, letting me communicate in as many platforms as I can get my hands on.

8. What areas of EVE are you weakest at knowledge wise?

Marketeering & Wormholes would probably be my weakest areas of knowledge. Whilst I’ve station traded and lived in a wormhole before, it wasn’t something that I particularly felt excited me, and as such haven’t been able to gather the depth of knowledge as I have within FCing and Ship/Module balance. Fortunately however, I’ve had people in CSM 11 who’ve easily covered these weaknesses, as they’re experts in the field. Steve & Aryth for the former, Kyle, Sullen & Noobman for the latter.

9. If you were offered unlimited development time - what's the biggest change you would lobby for in EVE?

As with most current CSM members, this question is hard to answer. But, I’d honestly like – given unbound dev time – see a small team in CCP dedicated to iteration. 2-3 devs working to fix small problems that creep into previous features, like Faction Warfare or PI, not the sexiest of suggestions sure, but it is what I think would do the maximum good for the game.

10. If you could wind back the clock - what feature or change would you remove from EVE?

Can I put the fact that tiercide has slowed down as a ‘change’ here? No? Ok.

I’d have to put interdiction nullification on combat capable ships here then. I feel like it was created to deal with static bubble spam – which is bad for the game and I’m glad is being worked on thanks to the CSM highlighting it – but has had an unintended effect on both large scale combat, and the game in general. I will stress however, that I like nullification as a means of travel, and I feel being able to go from point A to point B is important.

11. If you could pick one candidate to be elected with you who would they be and why?

This is a hard one to answer, but I’d have to put The Judge top of my list here. I have many other CSM 11 incumbents I’ve worked closely with, but The Judge has been a key partner in what I’ve done.

12. What is your favorite memory in EVE and why?

I’d have to put my work towards implementing and succeeding with a Nightmare doctrine in Providence here. I can point to a great many fights as a ‘good memory’, but what made it for me was the struggling, tweaking and hard work I put into convincing others that it was a good idea. Plus Nightmares are amazing fun to fly :)

13. What platform(s) do you use currently to engage with the wider player base? If someone wanted to contact you what is the best way to do this? (Include Twitter/Emails/Skype/Slack etc.)

@JintaanEVE on Twitter
@jintaan on Tweetfleet Slack
Jin’taan//Sanctity [CVA]#9801 on Discord
jintaaneve@gmail.com is my email
/u/jintaan on Reddit
And, of course, you can directly mail me in game.

14. If people wanted to find out more about your platform - where is the best place to do so? (Include blogs, forums posts and podcasts)

I have at this point done most of the major interview outlets, and a forum post. But in general, if you have a question, simply ask me. I’m always open to discuss things!

15. What is your closing statement (no more than 500 words please!)

If you’re reading this, you’re probably already going to vote, so I won’t waste my time telling you to vote. What I would say however, is tell your friends to vote. The more people that are involved in space democracy, the better, and whilst I’d obviously appreciate your votes, it’s far more important to me that you vote for who you want to see represent the players to CCP, even if it’s someone else.
