EVE_NT

Alliance Tournament XIX talent pool applications are now open!

EVE_NT is excited to be once again partnering with CCP in the production and broadcast of the upcoming Alliance Tournament in August. We will be broadcasting from EVE_NT HQ in Nottingham, UK and are looking to recruit talent to complement our core production team. This year we are keeping the format the same - recruiting for 3 analysts to travel to the UK and 4-6 match commentators who will join the broadcast from their home location in assigned pairs. The application process for both roles is identical, and we will assign successful applicants’ roles based on how we felt they performed in the interview process.

Who are we looking for?

Whether you have worked with us extensively in the past, or just started playing EVE recently and have never watched an Alliance Tournament, the application process is open to everyone and anyone (requirements permitting). Since you will be representing CCP at a high profile event the application process will be conducted in conjunction with them. EVE_NT will filter the initial applications and hold the first round of interviews, then our recommendations will be passed to CCP who will approve applicants and hold a second round of interviews if necessary.

What do you get out of this experience?

Being part of a broadcast of this scale can be an exhilarating experience in itself, and having thousands of viewers hanging off your every word certainly gets the adrenaline pumping! For analysts, flying to the UK will hopefully be a unique experience, with opportunities to meet some CCP community staff & developers who will be flying in as well as hanging out with the EVE_NT team during downtimes (we like to work hard, play hard!). If you are selected to be an online commentator you will be rewarded with payment in kind (PLEX).

What are EVE_NT’s expectations of ‘talent’?

As part of the talent team you are expected to entertain. This isn’t just ‘saying what you see’ in the arena, we expect you to be able to help the rest of the team tell a story. For both analysts and commentators we expect you to be able to piece together various threads of information into content that is both exciting and interesting for the viewer. It can be very challenging from a viewer perspective to understand visually what is happening in an Alliance Tournament match, so we expect you to bring your enthusiasm and expertise to the table to explain what is happening in a way that is informative without being patronising. What will really set applicants apart from the rest is demonstrating a background knowledge of the alliances and personalities involved (from both their tournament and ‘Tranquility’ context) and being able to pull those bits of information into their commentary/analysis with ease. Doing research/being immersed in the EVE Online community is key!

For commentators

We expect you to be able to switch up the pace of your observations quickly and respond fast to changes in the match, relaying details with your expertise, placing them in context and breaking things down during slow periods where there isn't much action. Equally important is being able to develop a good partnership with your fellow commentators and being able to pass the conversation back-and forth seamlessly. We want casters who can do both color and play-by-play commentary, putting yourself into just one of those categories will reduce your chances of being successful.

For analysts

We expect you to have an encyclopedic knowledge of current, developing and past tournament metas, mechanics, and stats. Additionally, being presentable is important, you’re going to be live and visible and we want you to look the part of an internet spaceship personality. Dress to impress!

Being a team member is also going to be a really important factor, we consider everyone involved an equally important part of the broadcast, from the director to the runner, host to the person who is calculating statistics in the backend, everyone is key to making the show work. Previous experience of working in a team in a high pressure environment will be an advantage.

You will be expected to work throughout the broadcast days from forming up to standing down regardless of when you are rotated on, as we will need you available throughout. You may be expected to attend some pre-show meetings, as well as contribute to some video and social media content around the broadcast.

What are the minimum requirements?

To travel to the broadcast in the UK you must be 18+ and hold a full passport valid until at least September 2023. You need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and your country needs to be open for travel to the UK. Feel free to apply if you (or your country) don’t fully meet these requirements if you wish to be considered for remote casting only. The broadcast is in English so you need to be fully fluent.

How to apply?

If you are interested in taking part, please email us at eventtvhq@gmail.com by 23:59 UTC (EVE Time) on 05/05/22 with ‘AT Talent Pool Application’ in the subject line and the following;

  • Personal Details
    • Character name (your ‘main’ in game) and alliance or in-game group associations
    • Real name
    • Date of birth
    • Nationality and country of residence
    • Confirmation you are available to travel (and take annual leave if necessary) for around 10 days of August 2023 (broadcast dates are 12/13th August and 19th/20th August)
    • Discord ID
  • Portfolio - if you haven’t worked with EVE_NT
    • Please submit footage of yourself (hosted on YouTube or similar, no video files attached please) commentating and/or doing analysis on an EVE Online PVP scenario, ideally a tournament match. There is some flexibility on what you submit, but we are looking to be impressed. You need to showcase your entertainment style, flow and knowledge of EVE Online.
    • If you don’t know where to start, simply pull up an old match on YouTube, mute it, hit record and commentate over it. Compilations of clips, footage from previous commentating jobs, podcasts, YouTube content etc. is all fine if you want to add flavor to your portfolio.
    • If you are submitting footage of you commentating from a previous broadcast (whether it’s EVE Online or something else) please add how long ago it was recorded. Please make your submission less than 15 min long.
  • Statement (no more than a paragraph) explaining why you want to pursue this opportunity.

We expect competition to be fierce and we will consider each application thoroughly, we will aim to filter down to interviews within approximately a week of the application closing deadline and will inform you if you have/haven’t made it to the next stage.

We look forward to looking through all the submissions!
