CSM12 Candidate: Claevyan

1. Please start by giving us a short introduction to who you are and your history within EVE Online. Include how long you have been playing and the groups you have been involved with.

I have been playing eve since december 30th, 2007. I started with one of my close friends and his dad, and we had absolutely no clue what to do. The learning curve was so high, it was over my head for the first month. The 3 of us found a group of Dutchmen that were super cool and played waaaay too late into the night for their TZ. We missioned with them, did some low sec roaming, and participated in some training PvP via consensual war decs with other noob groups in the area. Eventually we recruited most of these groups into our corporation and joined the Sylph alliance out in Catch and Providence space. We had an amazing time out there dieing to Titan DD blasts in the days when Titans dominated the game in a manner for more powerfully than they do today. During this time I was able to lead my first few skirmish fleets as an impromptu FC, gaining small gang experience and learning the mechanics of eve PvP through trial by fire.

We moved back to highsec space near the middle of 2009 and rolled up a group of alts that we could throw into a highsec mercenary corporation we had created. We used this corporation as our main isk making initiative for a time, taking on contracts from former allies and enemies alike.

From late 2009 to 2013 I took a break from eve to pursue RL things (college, dating, career, etc.) and came back to find that most of my friends had moved on or quit the game. I reconnected with the few of them I could find and soon joined with the corporation The Suicide Express [PROZC], and the (now dead) Kill It With Fire alliance out in C5/C5 wormhole space.

This was a completely new area of game play for me, but after spending about 4 years away from eve I was a noob to pretty much everything. I fell in love with wormhole space and it soon became the best end-game experience I have ever had in an MMO.

I am still with PROZC and still live in J-Space, though I have been able to branch out into other areas of eve since 2013.

I love this game, and the possibility that eve represents. Its an amazing sand box and I really like sharing it with you. Even if I did blap your exploration ship at a guristas site in that C2... I still like you. No worries.

2. Who would you consider to be your key constituents? Who would you best represent within the playerbase?

Wormhole game play is my key strength at the moment, but I would like to represent everyone who wants their voice to be heard by CCP. Independents, small corporations, public groups, and anyone who is tired of seeing the CSM dominated by large alliance candidates.

3. Please summarise your platform.

  • No Sov. - I am here for every person that plays eve, not just the few that fly under my flag
  • No Agenda - I am here to promote healthy game play for everyone, not push an agenda for an ally or put a thumb in the eye of an enemy
  • No Promises - Real talk here, the CSM is not a development team. I will not make promises to players about changes to EvE. Some others out there might promise to “make x great again” or to “remove hi-sec war deccers” and other things but such promises are not feasible.

4. Why have you decided to run for CSM this year?

Because I feel like I could do a lot of good representing the players in eve that do not have a bloc candidate to vote for, that do not get heard from often, that do not realize just what the CSM can do for the world of Eve online... and because I want to make a difference for something I love so much.

5. Have you run for or been a member of CSM in the past? If so please list each year and if you were elected.

This is my first year running for CSM.

6. What makes you a unique representative when you compare yourself to other candidates?

I am here to listen to each individual player and their concerns, without seeking the backing of special interest groups or making false promises to try and swing a vote.

7. Do you have any out of game experience and skills that make you a good candidate?

My personality and response to crisis have led me to taking on leadership and representative roles on a collegial and corporate level several times.

8. What areas of EVE are you weakest at knowledge wise?

Industry and creation. The people who build my ships and guns are amazing and fascinating and I wish I could be like you.

9. If you were offered unlimited development time - what's the biggest change you would lobby for in EVE?

I have a soft spot for the Nestor... SOE faction gets me all hot and bothered I guess and I want to see the Nestor do some great things, not just mediocre things.

Seriously though, if I could focus on 3 things in eve it would be

  1. 1. Focus on helping CCP not screw up my game while they follow their Dev. road map.
  2. 2. Introduce some new type of discoverable in game missions with actual robust story and player driven decision arcs that can give those who seek a pure PVE experience a sense of accomplishment and purpose, and
  3. 3. Alliance bookmarks as a QoL improvement for Wormhole alliances.

10. If you could wind back the clock - what feature or change would you remove from EVE?

I miss my drake! :D

11. If you could pick one candidate to be elected with you who would they be and why?

Totes Rhiload. He has some good ideas for balancing small gang and solo pvp.

12. What is your favorite memory in EVE and why?

The day I saw my first titan decloak... and DD my entire subcap fleet off the field. It was the moment when I was like “This just got real, boys!”

13. What platform(s) do you use currently to engage with the wider player base? If someone wanted to contact you what is the best way to do this? (Include Twitter/Emails/Skype/Slack etc.)

I have my own Discord channel, I respond to in game emails and chats, and hang out in the Talking in Stations public discord channel, as well as on the bombers bar slack channel. I lurk on r/eve at times, and have a gmail account for more private conversations: claevyan1@gmail.com

14. If people wanted to find out more about your platform - where is the best place to do so? (Include blogs, forums posts and podcasts)

My campaign post on the Eve Forums and my ">interview with Matterall on Talking in Stations. Also you can chat me in game whenever you want, if I am around.

15. What is your closing statement (no more than 500 words please!)

There has been a growing concern with the player base that the CSM is not an organization that can hear and communicate with the community anymore. That the larger community is out of touch or unrepresented. I aim to change that as best as I can. I want to be there for the individual player as well as for corporations and alliances. The current image of the CSM as being dominated by large alliance blocs has negatively impacted the effectiveness of the council in communicating with the player base as a whole. There must always be a place for the unaffiliated candidate, and there is.

Vote for an ear and a voice on the council.

No Sov. No Agenda. No Promises.

Vote for Claevyan, CSM XII.
